The Bloom of Blob!- Nurturing Young TalentIn September 2003 Hi8us Midlands launched the StripSearch project to identify and support comic strip illustration talent in the West Midlands. Our aim was to identify home-grown talent, hone their skills and support their professional development, with continued guidance and advice from highly revered experts.
The comic book "Blob" was launched at the BBC Mailbox public space on the 8th March 2008, drawing large crowds of comic fans and general public, who were delighted by the achievements of the young people. The young people are keen to carry on the group and have decided to set up their own comic collective. They are aiming to produce their next anthology for the Birmingham International Comics Convention later this year. HI8us Midlands has received a huge amount of interest from young people wanting to take part in the next round of Comic Studio and we are currently investigating further funding options.
