Successes

Benefits and outcomes for participants
Animation with young people often helps with many key skills and teaches children in a way that they don’t realise they’re learning. Skills like negotiation, team work, creative thinking, story telling and narrative are leant which in turn helps to develop their reading, writing and speaking.

Lessons learnt from the project for the future
Perhaps spent a little too much time on this as there were only 4 sessions over the same number of weeks to get the whole film made. Also, some of the groups didn’t have teacher support throughout the whole session and therefore didn’t run quite as smoothly. This would be stipulated as essential next time.

The evaluation process
Each school filled in an evaluation form. Each teacher was happy with the process and final results. Comments range from wanting to incorporate more animation into their curriculum, to doing a film club with Oscars ceremony! They all felt the children were inspired, the workshops encouraged literacy follow-up work and even though they were run after school the children were always eager to attend.
