Mediabox announces its 2008 funds

Mediabox is launching the Mid and Big Mediabox grants to make and distribute youth-led media projects that express young people's ideas and views in a creative way, using their preferred media platform:

Mid Mediabox – grants of up to £20,000.

Big Mediabox – grants of up to £40,000.

Both Mid and Big Mediabox are open to youth and/or media focused organisations. Mediabox can only award grants to organisations and young people in England.

Application Process
There will be a two stage application process for organisations wishing to apply to either Mid or Big Mediabox. You must make an application to Stage 1.

Application guidelines for both programmes will be available on this website from 12 March 2008.

Deadlines for 2008

Stage 1 application: Tuesday 29 April, 2.00pm

Stage 2 - Full Submission: Tuesday 10 June, 2.00pm

Stage 2 - Full Submission: Tuesday 30 September, 2.00pm

Funding Priorities for 2008

The majority of projects that Mediabox supported in its first year were short films and TV programmes. For 2008 we would like to support a wider range of media, and so will prioritise proposals that include radio, print, interactive, digital media, photography, graphic novels or mixed media advertising campaigns.

We would also like to encourage applications from areas of England that were under-represented in 2007. These are; West Midlands, East Midlands and the East of England.

We will also be prioritising proposals that will provide opportunities to engage hard to reach young people in media activity and who intend to work with appropriate partners to facilitate this. Partners could include statutory youth agencies, youth charities or other organisations or agencies that have a remit to work with disadvantaged young people.

Finally, we would like to support organisations who have not had a Mediabox grant before and who do not carry significant financial reserves.
