'This is Media Studies' Workshop For Teachers

This is Media Studies focuses on AQA media syllabi and provides teachers with little or no experience of teaching Media Studies the skills required when developing and delivering provision in this area. Tutors Faye Davies and Oliver Carter are highly experienced teachers of media studies.

This one day workshop will cover such topics as the growth of media studies - potential and problems, analysis of media texts - applying key concepts, collating useful teaching resources for media studies, addressing topic areas and understanding marking criteria.

Course Summary A basic introduction to studying the Media. This course focuses on AQA media syllabi and provides teachers with little or no experience of teaching Media Studies the basic skills required when developing and delivering provision in this area. It is recommended for those teaching GCSE and/or AS/A2 Level Media Studies and/or English. It will also be useful in preparing teachers for the onset of English 21.

Course Objectives The course will provide an introduction to the field of Media Studies, looking at is growth, the future potential of the subject and the impact it may have on teachers. We will analyse media texts and discuss the application of key concepts as well as adapting provision for weaker ability groups. Strategies for encouraging creative and analytical autonomy will also be introduced to attendees along with basic media production techniques and an explanation of how students can fulfil marking criteria.
