Mediabox awaiting news on its futureThe future of the Mediabox funding scheme is still uncertain although goverment minister Beverley Hughes is keen to see if it can be continued. Its hoped money from the government's Comprehensive Spending Review allocation for the Department of Children Schools and Families could be used to extend the scheme. Mediabox, which funds media projects with disadvantaged 13-19 year olds, is due to complete its first year in March 2008 and currently there is no definitive news about whether the scheme will run into a second year. Ministers have indicated that they are pleased with positive anecdotal evidence about the scheme's success but they will need to see proof before further funding is offered. Mediabox has distributed £3.6 million of funding to projects so far across its three schemes with more funding due to be announced in November. For those still wishing to apply to this year's scheme My Mediabox closes in January 2008. For more information visit www.media-box.co.uk |
