Work Related Learning Case Studies sought
To support the launch of the Diploma in Creative and Media in September 2008 Skillset, the sector skills council for media, are seeking case studies for inclusion in a toolkit for employers. The case studies should show examples of good practice in work related learning in media and the creative industries.
Brief for potential case study partners
Background
The Diploma in Creative and Media will be launched in September 2008. Skillset wants to support employer involvement in the delivery of the Diploma and raise awareness and understanding of how this can work. We are looking for ways to communicate with creative and cultural employers, independent training providers and other organisations, to illustrate how work related learning fits with the new diploma.
Case Study Bank
The purpose of the case studies is to become one component of a Diploma 'Toolkit' for employers. We know there are a lot of organisations out there already providing different types of work related learning. We want to use these examples to demonstrate to others what's possible.
Specifically the purpose of the case study bank is twofold:
- to share good practice work related learning examples in a range of sectors and organisations
- to share good practice examples of teacher training and development
This bank of case studies will become our core communications collateral to be used in a number of different ways (with the permission of the organisation concerned) e.g. published on Skillset's website, in publications, at workshops etc.
What kind of WRL?
Young people: The sort of activity we want to illustrate could come from any part of the WRL spectrum, including things like provision of online learning, mentoring, school visits, work experience, young people's workshops, project setting etc.
Teachers: This could be work you do with teachers to help with their CPD e.g. ongoing course work; refresher workshops; skills workshops; involvement of teachers in young people's projects etc
Case Study Format
The idea is to write up each case study for publication in a textual format (template available). It would be good to have case studies from different perspectives e.g. the young people, the organisation, the teacher etc. It is for consideration whether any audio or visual material coudl also be developed for broader use and publication.
Why get involved?
We hope that this kind of project would be beneficial to the organisations involved, with real business benefits. It woudl show them to be progressive employers contributing to the learning needs of young people, would showcase the work they are doing and promote them as employers of choice for the young people and other stakeholders.
It wil also put you onto the diploma network so that the schools consortia who will be delivering the Diploma from September 2008 will be aware of the work you're already doing with young people, providing opportunities for partnership working going forward.
