Switching On To Media Literacy

A Media Literacy Strategy for The West Midlands

The West Midlands is leading the way in development of a unfied approach to media literacy across the region. Following the launch of a national Charter for Media Literacy in late 2005 a Media Literacy Strategy for the West Midlands has been developed in collaboration with key partners.

Switching On To Media Literacy represents the common goals of organisations working in media literacy across the region. It brings together common themes and priorities which will contribute to the overall social, economic and educational prosperity of the region.

Priority Areas for Action

The strategy seeks to outline four priority areas for action:

  • information and communication
  • advocacy
  • support and training
  • production, distribution and exhibition

Within the four areas a number of priority themes for action have been identified. We are developing an action plan based on these areas to implement the strategy. To get involved in this please visit the consultation page.
