The home of media education in the West MidlandsMediaNet is a media education network for the West Midlands. It connects everyone working in media and education in the region to enable sharing of good practice, offer training and provide networking opportunities. Media education and media literacy is an exciting and rapidly developing area of both formal and informal education. Initiatives are proliferating nationally and across the region. Lots of innovative and high quality work goes on but it is often fragmented and not celebrated, shared or recognised. MediaNet offers a way to raise its profile and form it into a powerful and coherent movement. Who is MediaNet for?MediaNet covers the six counties of the West Midlands; Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Birmingham and The Black Country. The project works with schools and anyone working in media in formal or informal education in the region. The MediaNet network operates a free, open membership system available to anyone working in or with an interest in media and education. New developments for MediaNetLaunched in 2006, MediaNet has developed under the careful eye of The Rural Media Company, with support from Screen WM's Access Fund, and has played a key role in supporting the media literacy strategy for the West Midlands. With the recent development of Screen WM's new Education, Archive and Audience Development department, MediaNet will be transferred across to the regional screen agency to play an integral role in Screen WM's education and audience development strategy. Huge thanks go to The Rural Media Company for driving forward the development of the project so far, and managing such a valuable resource for the West Midlands' media education community. |
